The Role of the Parish Clerk
The parish clerk is the Proper Officer and professional administrator of Creswell Parish Council and is here to support the parish council in serving the local community.
Residents are always welcome to contact the clerk with questions, concerns, suggestions or matters they would like to raise. We value residents getting involved and letting us know bout issues affecting the parish.
Contacting the Clerk
We will always try to help residents where we reasonably can. However, the clerk is not a personal secretary or administrative service for individual residents.
Contacting the clerk does not constitute an instruction to undertake work, carry out research, obtain information, make additional site visits or incur expenditure on behalf of the parish council.
The clerk has responsibility for managing the day-today administration of the parish council and must use professional judgement when prioritising work. Correspondence and requests from residents must therefore be balanced alongside statutory duties, agreed priorities and the clerk's contracted working hours. (8 Hours a week)
Where a request would require additional work or resources, it may need to be considered formally before that work can be undertaken.
Where a matter is the responsibility of another authority - for example policing, highways enforcement or planning enforcement - we will be happy to point you in the right direction and provide details of the appropriate authority to contact. Residents will normally be expected to report their concerns directly to the organisation responsible rather than the clerk making the report on their behalf.
Nothing above affects anyone's statutory rights, including the right to make requests under the Freedom of Information or information-access legislation.
Our aim is to be helpful, accessible and responsive to our community, while ensuring that the clerk's time and parish council's resources are used appropriately, fairly and for the benefit of the community as a whole.
